S.C. law enforcement authorities raided a dozen Fort Mill and Rock Hill businesses this morning, shutting down Internet sweepstakes operations and confiscating more than 300 video gambling machines.
Officers with the York County Sheriff's Office, Fort Mill Police, Rock Hill Police and State Law Enforcement Division conducted the raid on the internet sweepstakes operations, in which people buy a card with credit to enter a "sweepstakes." Players then swipe the cards through a reader on personal computers and play a game similar to slots.
Nine of the businesses were in Fort Mill, most within two miles of Carowinds. Three of the businesses were in Rock Hill. Officers also targeted other video slot machines. |
