Hollywood Casino in Bay St. Louis re-opened today, putting 950 people back to work in Hancock County.
It was the eighth casino to reopen on the Coast since Hurricane Katrina blew through a year ago, closing all 12 casinos and a 13th that was scheduled to open just days later.
"It was a sea of people," said Bob Davidge, advertising and public relations director at the casino.
The new multimillion-dollar, temporary, land-based casino has opened in the Hollywood Hotel offering 291 guest rooms, 900 new slot machines, 20 unique table games and a new six-table poker room.
Restaurants that opened include Tuscany Steaks and Seafood, Jackpot Java and the Epic Buffet. The Bridge’s Clubhouse Grille will reopen with the Bridges Golf Course in mid-October. The facility also has 17,000 square feet of function space and three private meeting rooms.
