BIOGRAPHY
Delivering a brilliant mix of progressive rock, hard rock and pop, Kansas released its debut album in 1974 and carried on to produce eight Gold albums, three mulit-Platinum albums, a Platinum live album... The haunting “Dust in the Wind” became one of the staples of rock radio through the 70’s and 80’s and twenty years later, the band built on that legacy with “Carry On Wayward Son,” the #2 most played track on classic rock radio in 1995 and #1 in 1997. Following a number of lineup changes in the 80’s and 90’s, original member and songwriter Kerry Livgren returned in 2000 to produce Somewhere to Elsewhere, a reunion of all six original Kansas band members that recaptures the band’s glory days. Steve Walsh’s vocals soar high and true and Robbie Steinhardt is still a nimble wizard on the violin. Back in peak form, in 2002 Kansas released the DVD Device-Voice-Drum, a digitally-mastered recording of a two-hour concert in Atlanta that has won rave reviews from critics and fans alike. Known for powerhouse ballads and epic anthems, Kansas is one of the all-time great bands from the Midwest or anywhere else and still plays to packed houses across the U.S. and Europe. Quite an accomplishment for any rock n’ roll band. |
