ANOFFICERANDALADY LIGHTS UP TOTE BOARD IN PG JOHNSON STAKES

Saturday, October 20, 2007

East Rutherford, NJ [October 20, 2007] -- Anofficerandalady paid a hefty $108 to win the $55,000 P.G. Johnson Stakes for 3-year-old fillies on Saturday night at the Meadowlands.

The 53-1 shot dueled Thru N’ Thru into submission with a sixteenth to go and held off the late charge of Featherbed for a length victory. In her grass debut, she stepped the five furlongs in 57.3 with jockey Hiram Rivera aboard.

Anofficerandalady improved her record to four wins in eight career starts. She entered the P.G. Johnson Stakes off an impressive allowance win on the dirt at Charles Town. Ed Allard trains the daughter of Officer-Foolish Kisses for owner-breeder Philip Torsney.
“Dr. Torsney bred this filly along with Imtoogoodtobetrue and Gotaghostofachance and they were all multiple stakes winners, so this mare [Foolish Kisses] has produced a lot of very nice horses,” Allard said. “This filly, we wanted to try her on the grass, only because the family’s been so good and she’s been a little bit lesser horse than some of her siblings. There was a possibility that maybe she would excel on the grass, so we were taking a chance and it worked out. I’m real proud of her.
“That [last race at Charles Town] helped,” Allard continued. “It was going four and a half furlongs and she was a tick off the track record that night and the rider [Travis Dunkelberger] said to me afterwards he thought they should win a stake somewhere along the line and that she’s a real nice filly, so we’re real pleased.”
