Bias suit
A man who claims he was fired for uttering sexually-charged Spanish slang as part of a workplace diversity class exercise has sued Argosy Riverside Casino.
Former Argosy executive chef Andre Yusuf filed the action this week in U.S. District Court in Kansas City claiming he was unfairly dismissed in February 2005 for uttering the controversial words at the urging of Argosy’s Spanish language instructor.
Yusuf alleged his classroom utterances were a pretext by the company to dismiss him based on his Javanese nationality, skin color and gender. He alleged he was “immediately replaced” by a younger and lesser-qualified white male. The suit seeks unspecified back pay and other damages.
A spokesman said Argosy does not comment on pending litigation.
