All season long, Royals home runs have generate more than $10,000 for Hillcrest Transitional Housing program from Argosy Casino. As the 2006 baseball season comes to a close, Argosy has decided to chip in an extra $14,800 to turn that figure into an even $25,000.
Argosy opened the 2006 baseball season with a pledge of up to $25,000 to Hillcrest of Platte and Wyandotte counties. Argosy agreed to donate $100 per Royals home run, then later increased donations to $350 per home run.
Hillcrest is a faith-based nonprofit with 30 years of experience guiding area families from homelessness to self-sufficiency.
"We're excited about our partnership with Argosy," said Eric Haynes, director of Hillcrest Transitional Housing of Platte County. "We're really impressed with their commitment to the community."
Hillcrest's Transitional Housing program has four area locates in Platte, Clay, eastern Jackson and Wyandotte counties. They offer fully-furnished apartments to homeless families (many of whom are single mothers with children) rent free and provide all necessary food and pantry items. While enrolled in the 90-day program, parents are expected to maintain full-time employment, attend weekly training classes for essential life and community living skills and live within a strictly enforced budget. Hillcrest is one of Argosy's 2006 focused charities. |
