Two casino employees who allegedly stole a HK$100,000 gaming chip and then cashed it in and shared the money, were arrested by the Judiciary Police (PJ) on Tuesday.

The two 24-year-old suspects worked in different casinos and were local residents.

According to spokesperson Chan Kin Hong, a casino in Taipa filed a report to police on Tuesday that they suspected one of their staff members had stolen gaming chips during work.

After looking at records of the surveillance camera, police suspected a man surnamed Leong who had begun to work in the accounting department only three days ago.

The suspect then admitted to police he had stolen the HK$100,000 gaming chip from the department office last Friday and then passed it on to his croupier friend from another casino in order to cash in the money.

The croupier surnamed Chou, who got a share of HK$4,000, was arrested by the PJ during a set-up meeting with suspect Leong.
Police also raided Leong's home in Areia Preta where HK$60,000 of cash and jewellery valued at some HK$20,000 which Mr Chan said was bought by the cashed-in money, were seized.

The two suspects were sent to the Public Prosecutions Office yesterday. Leong and Chou will be charged with work embezzlement and receiving stolen goods respectively.
