Early next year India will get its first major professional poker tournament when the Asian Poker classic takes place at InterContinental The Grand Resort in Goa March 1-4. The No-Limit Texas Hold'em tournament is expected to draw in players from around the world to compete for a share in $1 million.
"There's been nothing like this before in India. It's going to be absolutely amazing," said Thomas Kremser, tournament director. "With the stunning beauty of Goa, superb hotel and the totally unique nature of the tournament itself as a back drop, this will be the poker tournament of the year."
Professional poker players as well as celebrities, including several Bollywood celebrities, are expected to attend the tournament. All participants will also have the opportunity to attend parties and events in the region including a celebrity golf match.
Goa is located on the western coast of India and has been known as the "Pearl of the Orient" and a "Tourist Paradise." When they're not playing in the tournament or busy with other activities, there are plenty of beaches, temples, and other sites to keep people occupied.
