What would you do with a million dollars? We all ponder the question at some point. An Appling County couple is wondering.
Dell and Rita Ray of Baxley picked up their check for $1 million at the Georgia Lottery office in Savannah today. He works as a pipe fitter in west Georgia.
Dell Ray bought the lucky scratch-off ticket and didn't tell his wife until a few days later. The couple just got married a few weeks ago. Ray says it's a great start.
"I told her it's going to be hard for me to top this, so don't expect this kind of surprise every week," he said with a laugh.
The tax man takes a big bite, so the Rays wind up with just under $700,000 spread out over the next 20 years. Ray says he's going to put away a lot of the money for retirement.
