Casino Story from BBC NEWS: http://news.bbc.co.uk

The Bishop of Sheffield has spoken of his concerns after the city was named as a possible site to host the UK's first Las Vegas-style "super-casino".
Jack Nicholls said he was worried a super casino, with unlimited jackpots, would increase addictive gambling.

He added: "This in turn can have serious consequences on the families and dependents of those who are so addicted."

Sheffield is one of eight UK sites in the running to get a super-casino.

Negative effects

Bishop Nicholls said any financial benefits to the community through taxation must be weighted against the negative effects of a casino.

He said: "Is it a price worth paying? I think not. My hope is that it will not be to Sheffield, but if it is, we must not wash our hands of the consequences, but do all we can to help those who would be most affected by such a decision."

Blackpool, Cardiff, Glasgow, Manchester, Newcastle, Wembley Stadium and the Millennium Dome are the other bidders to reach the shortlist.

A final recommendation will be made to the government by the Casino Advisory Panel in December.
