Blaine woman hits Silver Reef jackpot
Housekeeper wins more than $206,785
A Blaine housekeeper put $2.70 into a Silver Reef Hotel Casino & Spa slot machine on Wednesday and came away with what is believed to be the largest slot jackpot ever won in Whatcom County.
Estrella Hurier was playing a three-cent progressive slot machine and won $206,785.79. The slot was part of a pot that had been growing since January 2006, said Eric Larsen, director of marketing for Silver Reef. The previous winning slot record at Silver Reef was about $96,000.
Hurier told Silver Reef officials that she has played slots before, but had never won something this big. She also told them she plans to continue working as a housekeeper.
“Having a $2.70 spin pay out over $206,000 is a tremendous first for the casino,” said Harlan G. Oppenheim, general manager of Silver Reef in a press release. “This jackpot is the largest in our five-year history and has really electrified our guests and staff.”
