CT casinos benefit from NJ shutdown
Harriet Jones, WNPR
HARTFORD, CT All twelve of Atlantic City's casinos closed their doors Wednesday, as the state of New Jersey shut down all non-essential services. The casinos must have state-employed regulators in place for gaming to continue. It's estimated the casinos, operated by big names like Trump, MGM Mirage and Harrahs, could lose more than 20 million dollars a day.
New York City is the one of the biggest sources of business for the Atlantic City casinos - and Connecticut's Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun Casinos are a roughly comparable drive for those customers. Analyst Matthew Jacob says they may already have picked up business.
This is the first shutdown in the 28 year history of legalized gambling in New Jersey.
