Gambling news from http://www.projo.com/ WEST WARWICK-- The councilman who represents the area slated for the proposed Narragansett Indian casino is challenging the leader of the entertainment company sponsoring the venture to a public debate. West Warwick council member Peter F. Calci Jr. said he sent a letter to Gary Loveman, CEO of Harrah's Entertainment, yesterday inviting him to address the residents of Ward 5 about the project planned for the area. "When the House Finance Committee wanted him, Mr. Loveman got on the first available plane and made himself available to answer their questions," Calci wrote in a news release. "His casino is literally proposed in our backyard, and I think he should extend my neighbors the same courtesy." If the casino is approved in a November vote, it would be located in the West Warwick Business Park. The debate would allow audience members to ask questions via a moderator, who would give each panelist time to respond, Calci said. In his letter, Calci requested a response from Loveman in five business days. Calci, a staunch casino opponent, recently launched his campaign for reelection. In recent months, he introduced wording to include in the host-community agreement the Town Council is negotiating with Harrah's and the Narragansett Indian Tribe to protect property values for the casino's neighbors.
