Casino Del Sol to host replica of Vietnam Memorial Wall in February
Last updated: January 17.2007
TUCSON, AZ — A traveling replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall will be making its first appearance since 2003 at Casino Del Sol from February 22nd through February 26th.
This free exhibit is open to all ages and is presented by the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, in collaboration with American Legion Yoeme Post 125 and the Pascua Yaqui Tribe Color Guard. The exhibit will feature ceremonial proceedings, merchandise sale, name rubbing, and visits from other veterans’ associations within the state.
The traveling tribute pays homage to those who served their country, allowing visitors to share a common bond of experience; a reminder of America's veterans' dedication to freedom. The memorial serves as an emotional and educational reminder of the sacrifices made by Vietnam vets in particular, upholding the promise that those who served shall not be forgotten.
The Wall, displaying the names of the 58,283 fallen soldiers, is the largest replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall. The visually impressive 4/5 scale replica of the Washington D.C. monument stands 8 feet high at the apex and spans 370 feet. The memorial also features the names of those that made the ultimate sacrifice during Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The Pascua Yaqui Tribe is a federally recognized tribe with over 14,000 enrolled members. The reservation is located in southwest metropolitan Tucson. The Tribe owns and operates two casinos; Casino del Sol and Casino of the Sun. Non-gaming enterprises include the Anselmo Valencia Amphitheater, a 4,470-seat open-air concert venue, and the Del Sol Marketplace, which includes a gas station and car wash, convenience store, and smoke shop.
