Event Information

Event: WAR
Date: Friday - Jan 11, 2008
Time: 8:00 PM
Location: Show Lounge

Details

One of the most popular funk groups of the 70s, WAR were also one of the most eclectic, freely melding soul, Latin, jazz, blues, reggae, and rock influences into an effortlessly funky whole. Although WAR’s lyrics were sometimes political in nature (in keeping with their racially integrated lineup), their music almost always had a sunny, laid-back vibe emblematic of their Southern California roots; WAR kept the groove loose.

For WAR, the rise of sampling culture has ushered in a rebirth of sorts as well as a sense of attribution for the bands profound influence on contemporary American music. Artists that have sampled WAR's music include: Janet Jackson, TLC & Macy Gray. Along with sampling, WAR has seen a dramatic increase in the number of covers being produced over the past few years by wide variety of artists from Smash Mouth (Why Can’t We Be Friends) to Korn (Low Rider).

Songs: Low Rider, Cisco Kid, Why Can't We Be Friends, Summer, Spill the Wine, Gypsy Man & Slippin' Into Darkness

Event Information

Event: The Lovin' Spoonful
Date: Saturday - Jan 12, 2008
Time: 8:00 PM
Location: Show Lounge

Details

In 1965, two rockers from Long Island, Steve Boone and Joe Butler, teamed up with two folkies from Greenwich Village, John Sebastian and Zal Yanovsky, to form the Lovin' Spoonful and go on to record and perform some of the songs that would dominate the charts and establish them among the greats of the mid-sixties era.

Combining the best of folk music and rock and roll, with a touch of country thrown in, they gave us such hits as Do You Believe in Magic, You Didn't Have to be So Nice and the anthem for a hot July evening, Summer in the City.

As 1969 approached, the skies were darkening in Good Time Music land and sensing opportunities in individual endeavors the three remaining members went their separate ways with a promise to not let the spark go out. In 1991 a long awaited settlement with their record company inspired Joe and Steve to contact Jerry and start up the Lovin' Spoonful again. The year 2000, marked a milestone for the band when they were officially inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. 2008 begins the 43rd year that the Spoonful has been out performing their songs around the world.

Members: Steve Boone & Joe Butler (original members), Jerry Yester (since 1967), Mike Arturi & Phil Smith

Songs: Do You Believe in Magic, Daydream, You Didn't Have to be So Nice, Nashville Cats, Summer in the City, Darlin' Be Home Soon, Six O-Clock, She's Still A Mystery To Me & Never Goin' Back

Event: PAULY SHORE and his Dad, Sammy Shore
Date: Friday - Jan 18, 2008
Time: 8:00 PM
Location: Show Lounge

Details

Pauly Shore knows a little something about the fleeting nature of fame and fortune. Despite overwhelming popularity during the early '90s, he has been slapped around by the media. As an answer to his critics and a step toward getting his career back on track, Pauly produced, wrote, directed and starred in Pauly Shore Is Dead, a semi-autobiographical mockumentary in which he satirizes the perils of Hollywood.
An entertainment career was virtually pre-ordained for Paul Montgomery Shore. At age 4, he sat on the lap of The King himself in the company of his father, comedian Sammy Shore, who opened for Elvis during the early '70s. Around the same time, Pauly's mother and father opened The Comedy Store on Hollywood's Sunset Strip, giving their son the rare opportunity to hang out with such rising talents as Robin Williams, David Letterman and the late Sam Kinison, who became his mentor.

Pauly rose to national attention during a strong four-year run on MTV with his own show Totally Pauly He has starred in numerous movies including: Encino Man, Son-in-Law, In the Army Now, Jury Duty & Bio-Dome. Pauly has starred in numerous movies and has released a number of first comedy albums including The Future of America & Hollywood, We Have a Problem.

Sammy Shore - In a career that has spanned over fifty years, Sammy shore has shared the stage with such music legends as Elvis Presley, Tom Jones & Tony Bennett. He has spent a lifetime on and offstage performing and keeping company with fellow comedians including Bob Hope, Mel Brooks & Buddy Hackett.

H was hand-picked by Elvis Presley and Colonel Parker to share the bill with the King of Rock 'n' roll in his 1969 Las Vegas debut at the International Hotel and spent five years on the road making Elvis and over 20 million fans laugh.

His first book, The Warm-Up was published in 1984 and continues to inspire young comedians. Sammy took his book to the stage with his commercial & critical success one-man show. More stage appearances followed included On Stage and a Little Off & But First, Sammy Shore which were both award-winning one-man shows. Sammy Shore's new CD is entitled A Senior Sensation.

Date: Saturday - Jan 19, 2008
Time: 8:00 PM
Location: Show Lounge

Details

The time is right for the very best musical tribute and comical parody, celebrating the brilliance and charm of these legendary icons. This high-energy original big band show will make you feel like you’ve actually experienced the magical spontaneity that Sinatra, Davis and Martin brought to the stage every night. This show creates something that has never been seen before. Ask yourself, "How would these three timeless entertainers re-invent "COOL" today?"

Here's what people have been said about the show:
"The added impressions and more current songs performed by the cast in their respective characters keeps the show fresh and innovative."

Superb vocal and physical impersonations, driven by that famous “devil-may-care,” attitude that made the Rat Pack so popular back in the 1960s. As uncanny as it seems, it truly felt like we were transported back in time..."

Event Information

Event: Dr. John
Date: Friday - Jan 25, 2008
Time: 8:00 PM
Location: Show Lounge

Details

Dr. John is a pianist, singer, and songwriter, whose music spans, and often combines, blues, boogie woogie, and rock and roll. Dr. John, or Mac Rebennack as known to friends and family, is universally celebrated as the living embodiment of the rich musical heritage exclusive to New Orleans. His very colorful musical career began in the 1950s when he wrote and played guitar on some of the greatest records to come out of the Crescent City. A notorious gun incident forced the artist to give up the guitar and concentrate on organ and piano. In the 60s he launched his solo career, developing the charismatic persona of Dr. John The Night Tripper. Adorned with voodoo charms and regalia, a legend was born with his breakthrough 1968 album Gris-gris, which established his unique blend of voodoo mysticism, funk, rhythm & blues, psychedelic rock and Creole roots.

Several of his many career highlights include the masterful album Sun, Moon and Herbs in 1971 which included cameos from Eric Clapton and Mick Jagger and 1973’s In The Right Place, which contained the chart hits Right Place Wrong Time & Such A Night. Dr. John garnered four Grammy Award wins and received five other nominations over the years. After a half century of creating music for others and himself, Dr. John continues to write, arrange, produce and interpret with a passion that has yet to wane. As a true living legend, Mac “Dr. John” Rebennack will always be a musician who never ceases to explore the endless possibilities that music presents.

Event Information

Event: Tommy Hunter
Date: Saturday - Jan 26, 2008
Time: 8:00 PM
Location: Show Lounge

Details

With his timeless appeal, Tommy Hunter is an entertainer with a long history of involving people in his brand of country music. He's had them singing along with TV audiences and even in people's living rooms with people who were not necessarily country music fans. This may suggest that the nickname "Canada's Country Gentleman" bestowed on him by his fans, might be just a little bit misleading. Although he's been identified with country music over the past half century, Tommy Hunter, like a great part of his loyal audiences, can’t be pinned down to simply one genre of music.

After nine years on TV with Country Hoedown, Tommy got his own network TV show, and in 1965 he debuted The Tommy Hunter Show. Reigning for 27 years as a major force in Canadian television, before leaving the air in June of 1992, the production would make history as the longest-running weekly show of its kind around the world!

In 2003, Tommy returned to television to star in his first special since leaving the network eleven years earlier. The special called Talk About The Good Times, turned out to be one of the highest rated shows of the season. Canada's Country Gentleman proved once again there is still a demand for family programming.

Songs: Pass Me By, I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry, Travelin’ Man & No One Will Ever Know

Event Information

Event: William Joseph
Date: Tuesday - Jan 29, 2008
Time: 8:00 PM
Location: Show Lounge

Details

The greatest music comes from within. In the case of the extraordinary young piano virtuoso William Joseph, that statement applies both literally and figuratively. This twenty-five year old Phoenix, Arizona native has displayed an innate affinity and enduring love for his instrument virtually from the cradle. Matched with a dedication and discipline that has given polish and precision to his passion, William Joseph has indeed reached deep inside to discover and nurture his spectacular gift.

At age eight, the young prodigy had already garnered a full music scholarship that would allow him to study classical piano with the likes of the acclaimed Russian instructor Stella Saperstein. It was in 2003 that the young artist's unique musical ability was brought to the attention of legendary music producer and songwriter David Foster.

Joseph worked closely together with Foster & his co-producers to select a repertoire that would truly represent the range and dynamism of the young pianist. Included are distinctive renditions of such varied material as Kansas' Dust In The Wind, Led Zeppelin's Kashmir & Butterflies And Hurricanes by UK rock innovators Muse.

Songs: Ave Maria, Stella's Theme, Grace, Seeds Of Hope & Within

Event Information

Event: Jason Aldean
Date: Wednesday - Jan 30, 2008
Time: 8:00 PM
Location: Show Lounge

Details

Jason Aldean doesn’t have to think long when asked to call up his top game changing moment of 2006. While playing their single, Hicktown in a Portland club, the place went crazy. Hicktown, propelled by a spanking beat and a girls-gone-hillbilly-wild video, would go Top 10 before long, but that’s the night it found its place in the full-roar, sing-along party that is Jason Aldean’s groove.
A year after that show, the whole career thing looks better than ever. At a time when new artists in country have struggled to be heard, Aldean broke through a crowded field, capturing the Academy of Country Music Award for Top New Male Vocalist and earning a gold album just 12 weeks after his debut’s release. Aldean followed up with Why, a fist-to-the-heart ballad that rang the bell at No. 1 on radio and CMT.

His second album, Relentless, released in 2007, is a collection of songs that sustain his emphasis on relatable, recognizable lyrics while pushing into new sonic territory. This album also has a darker side, with a handful of songs about the wake of busted love and sonic textures that are grittier than one normally hears on country radio.

Songs: Hicktown, Why, Relentless, I Use What I Got, Honky Tonk Woman & I Break Everything I Touch
