Casino Rock Island wins 4-year license renewal

ROCK ISLAND -- The Casino Rock Island was granted a four-year license renewal by the Illinois Gaming Board Monday.

The board voted 4-0, with no discussion, on the renewal, spokesman Gene O'Shea said. 'There were no fireworks at all.'

The gaming license -- one of nine in Illinois -- is valid until May 2011, he said.

The board only considered the casino license and not the company's proposed new $150 million complex in southwest Rock Island, which was not on the board's agenda this month. In April, the board denied a request for an expedited review of the casino's new facility.

Casino spokesman Bill Renk said he didn't know when the casino will go back to the board for final approval of design and financing. 'We're working on assembling all that information,' he said, but a timetable hasn't been set.

Although there has been prep work done at the site, construction can't begin without the board's approval.
