Casino Sells Master Plan

MGM Mirage has announced its intention to build a master-planned residential community on 166 acres it owns in Jean, Nev., 25 miles southwest of the city. The company will close Nevada Landing, one of Jean's two casinos, on April 18; the Gold Strike Casino, across I-15, will close "eventually."

The community will feature affordable single-family houses, condominium and apartment buildings, some of which are earmarked for MGM Mirage employees. A locals casino will also open in the mixed-use development; shuttles to jobs in Las Vegas are also planned.

No timeline or costs have been announced for the project.

The Stratosphere is running an excellent players club new-member sign-up program.

Join the club and earn 100 points in a day and get a T-shirt. Earn 400 and get two buffets. Earn 1,200 and get two show tickets to American Superstars or Bite. And earn 2,000 and get $100 in cash on a return visit.

The offers are cumulative, so if you go all the way up the ladder, you get a shirt, dinner, show and cash. Getting to the first level requires playing quarter slots for about 15 minutes. This is an uncommonly good deal for players.

Aladdin Shows

As part of its conversion to Planet Hollywood, the Aladdin has announced the first two of what's expected to be a prolific show roster.

"Stomp Out Loud," a new production from the creators of Stomp, will open in early April in a new $28 million custom-built theater.

"Faster Than Magic" will be an illusion spectacular starring magician Hans Klok and TV star Carmen Electra. It is also scheduled to make its debut in April.

Palms' Pearl

The Palms' new concert venue, the Pearl, will debut March 17 with a concert by Evanescence.

The official grand opening will take place on April 21 with a concert by Gwen Stefani.

The Palms is expected to promote an aggressive concert line-up, due in part to the defection to the Palms of the former concert promoter for the Hard Rock's Joint.
