Casino Taoro readies for their big move

The days of Puerto de la Cruz’s Casino Taoro are numbered. The popular gambling attraction is set to move down from its present perch overlooking the town, to its new home in the waterfront Lago de Martiánez, in June.

As far as visitors are concerned, the new location in the heart of the resort will be a boon, but the limited parking possibilities in the area, compared with those of the Parque de Taoro, have been a cause for some concern within the managing company. The Casino’s management is said to be considering a whole raft of different transport possibilities for customers, among them the idea of purchasing a fleet of electric cars to ferry gamblers between the Lago and the Pirámides de Martiánez car park. The existing agreement with Puerto’s taxi drivers by which customers get a free ride will continue as before.

But the parking problem is dismissed as a mere glitch by Casino boss Hemenegildo Hernández, who predicted the location swap will be a huge success: “It will give this resort a first-class new attraction, transform the Costa Martiánez pools complex into a permanent leisure centre by keeping it open at night with entertainment and live music and last, but not least, it will breathe new life into the entire Martiánez area.”

He anticipates the Casino fruit machines will also get a new lease of life, sited as they will be straight off the street in the Lido de San Telmo end of the busy Avenida de Colón promenade, in reach of passing trade.
