During a recent visit to Harrah's Joliet Casino & Hotel this columnist was witness to an incredible sight: royal flushes on the screens of two video poker machines, side-by-side, within a minute's time. The first came when the player was dealt a royal in hearts, good for a $4,000 hand pay since he was playing $1 denomination. His buddy, playing 50-cent video poker at the machine to his left, barely had time to offer his congratulations when he was dealt three to a royal in diamonds and drew the two cards he needed to complete it for a $2,000 hand pay. The veteran slot attendant who responded to the jackpots said it was a first for him.
