Four weeks into the hiring process, officials with Riverwind Casino say they are well on their way to reaching their goal of hiring 1,874 employees before the facility opens in July.

Crews are wrapping up the final construction jobs at the Chickasaw Nation casino off 1-35 and Highway 9 just south of Norman. Riverwind officials said as of Wednesday, they had brought more than 700 employees on board, but the hiring process is still in full swing.

"Although we have received hundreds of applications, we are still seeking more employees to build a qualified, service-oriented staff at Riverwind," said Linda Dalton, chief human resources officer for Chickasaw Enterprises. "We need to hire 184 people each week to reach our goal of 1,874 employees. So far, we're on target to reach that goal before the July 17 opening date."

Dalton said Riverwind has job openings in a variety of areas from cashiers to cooks, IT service technicians to ticketing clerks. The casino will offer training for many of its positions.

"Riverwind wants to be the employer of choice for Oklahoma," Dalton said. "We're offering competitive pay, advancement opportunities, 100 percent paid employee healthcare and a fun and exciting work environment."

Riverwind is hosting a job fair 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Moore Norman Technology Center's South Penn Campus at SW 134th and Pennsylvania in Oklahoma City.. Applicants can also report to the Goldsby Gaming Center, 1038 W. Sycamore Road, anytime from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or visit www.riverwind.com and fill out an application online.

Riverwind Casino will feature a 1,500 seat multi-tiered state-of-the-art Showplace Theater for concerts, comedians and other entertainment and a smaller 77-seat RiverWind Lounge. The 210,000-square-foot facility also includes two restaurants, a food court, 2,200 electronic gaming machines, more than 70 black jack and poker tables, an off-track betting lounge and an event center.

Oklahoma's Largest Casino Hiring

Construction is wrapping up for what will soon be Oklahoma's largest casino. The Riverwind Casino is being built by the Chickasaw Nation at Interstate-35 and Highway 9, south of Norman.

Officials say they are currently hiring for 1800 positions at the casino. The building is 219 square feet and will feature more than 2000 electronic gaming machines and 70 black jack and poker tables. Casino spokesperson Kym Koch says other large casinos owned by the Chickasaw Nation have had a huge economic impact in the areas they are built.

Koch said, "We believe that Riverwind will have the same sort of economic impact on the immediate area, as well as the metro area. We'll draw a lot of employees from the Oklahoma City metro area, Norman, Tuttle, Goldsby, Newcastle. "

Koch says most employees at other casinos live within a 50 mile radius of the building. Goldsby built a 1.7 million dollar sewage facility in preparation for the population increase. The town of Newcastle also built a new water tower. Koch says towns in that area can use the casino to their advantage, as it will attract more business and residents.
