Courtesy of: http://www.sootoday.com By David Helwig On Saturday September 9th, the 250 workers of Palace Casino in West Edmonton Mall will go on strike to support their effort to get a first union contract under the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 401. The workers have been negotiating for a year to achieve an agreement, but have been stymied by the owners of Palace Casino, Gateway Casinos Income Fund of Burnaby, B.C. Picket lines will go up around the casino, both inside and outside the mall. Pickets may also be established around the perimeter of West Edmonton Mall. Union officials and members will be available to the media to discuss the issues in the strike and the position of the union.
