The Saskatchewan Gaming Corp., which operates Casino Regina and Casino Moose Jaw, had net earnings of nearly $30 million in the last fiscal year.
Data released Wednesday in the corporation's annual report for the 2005-2006 fiscal year showed the corporation had revenues of $94.6 million and expenses of $65.3 million, with a resulting net income of about $29.3 million.
Marty Klyne, the chief executive officer of the gaming corporation, said the corporation has made a major contribution to both the provincial economy and the local economies in Regina and Saskatoon.
"The total workforce for Casinos Regina and Moose Jaw is 901 employees,'' Klyne said. "Aboriginal employees represent approximately 50 per cent of the total (casinos) workforce,'' Klyne added, in a news release.
The Gaming Corporation has, since 1996, paid over $$241 million to the province's general revenue fund. Of that, 25 per cent is distributed to the Communities Initiatives Fund and the Metis Development Fund. Another 25 per cent is provided to the First Nations Trust Fund. The remaining 50 per cent is provided to other programs to benefit Saskatchewan communities.
More than 16 million guest visits have been recorded at Casino Regina since it opened in 1996. More than two million visits have been recorded at Casino Moose Jaw since it opened in 2002.
