One in five reports early signs of carpel tunnel syndrome ?? 79% complain of tiredness with sleep disturbance and chronic fatigue commonplace ?? Stress and violence at work is growing compared to the last survey in 2003 with the number of staff experiencing assaults trebling. The incidence of racial harassment doubling and as many as 40% of women workers surveyed reporting sexual harassment. But there is some good news. The Scottish Executive\'s decision to ban smoking in all public places this weekend is heralded as a measure which \"should have a very marked and positive effect on casino employees\' health.\" The GMB\'s study found that 81% of Scotland\'s gaming workers complained of poor air quality: attributable to a mixture of ineffective ventilation and second-hand smoking. As a result, one in five staff complained of respiratory problems, over a half (51%) of eye irritation and 61% of throat irritation. Elsewhere the Union calls for zero tolerance by Casino operators of customers who are abusive or threatening to staff. The GMB is also demanding routine health checks for all staff and an end to 12 hour shifts along with regular and longer rest breaks. The Union has also issued a call to Gala Casinos to stop discriminating against its Scottish employees by blocking Trade Union Recognition, when it has granted it to its gaming staff in London Surely, though, these complaints aren\'t just a factor of working in a casino. It seems like a fact of life these days, sad as that is, and that a lot of people suffer similar problems in the workplace. I always thought croupiers had it pretty good - I guess I was wrong.[u]
