CALGARY/AM770CHQR - A Calgary Catholic school parent representative says the schools may have to re-visit the decision to use casinos as fundraisers, given the bishop's latest salvo on the issue.
Calgary Catholic Bishop Fred Henry has written all separate schools, vowing to boycott the year-opening mass and will "blacklist" schools that continue to use casinos to fundraise.
Dave Dansereau is with the Catholic School District Advisory Council.
He says when the bishop speaks, people have to listen. He says although a stakeholders group and the school board both decided in May that individual schools should be allowed to use casinos as fundraiser, the bishop's remarks throw that into question.
Dansereau says at his child's school, they used $20,000 in casino revenue to buy new materials for the library, so the money can be put to good use.
