The $50 million Century Casino & Hotel under construction in Central City already is a winner -- and it's not even open yet.
Owner Century Casinos Inc. plans to launch its new, 60,000-square-foot casino a month earlier than expected -- on July 10, rather than early August. Construction has moved faster than anticipated, according to the company.
July 10 will be the casino\'s \"soft\" opening, and will be followed by a week-long grand opening celebration at the end of this month.
The Century Casino will feature 627 slot machines, 12 table games, including a separate poker room, 27 hotel rooms plus food and beverage service.
Century Casinos (NASDAQ: CNTY) owns 65 percent of the casino, but has the option to buy out the minority owner.
Based Colorado Springs, Century Casinos also owns Womacks Casino & Hotel in nearby Cripple Creek.
The rest of the company\'s casinos are outside the country. Those properties include the Caledon Hotel, Spa & Casino near Capetown, South Africa; Monte Vista Casino in Newcastle, South Africa; and the Millennium Casino in Prague, Czech Republic.
The company is building a casino in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Its Austrian subsidiary, Century Casinos Europe GmbH, recently entered an agreement to buy 33 percent ownership in Casinos Poland Ltd. for $8.6 million. The Polish gaming company owns seven casinos and a slot arcade, located in high-end hotels across Poland. The country\'s anti-monopoly authorities currently are vetting the deal.
Century Casinos also operates casinos on ships belonging to Silversea Cruises and Oceania Cruises.
The company joined the Russell 2000 small-cap stock index on July 3. The index offers investors access to the small-cap segment of the U.S. equity market.
For 2005, Century Casinos reported net income of $4.5 million, down from $4.7 million a year earlier. Last year\'s total revenue hit $41.7 million, up from $35.8 million in 2004. |
