Chamber of Commerce votes against casino plans
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- A vote against a planned casino in West Warwick, but it's not from Rhode Island voters.
The Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce voted overwhelmingly on Friday against a proposal by the Narragansett Indian Tribe to build a casino with its partner, Harrah's Entertainment.
Barring a court challenge, voters will be able to decide in a November ballot question if they support amending the state Constitution to allow for a casino.
The chamber said in a statement that it worried a casino would have a bad effect on the state's economic development.
The chamber's vote against the casino was 40 to one, with four abstentions. |
