BUFFALO, N.Y. The city of Buffalo and the Seneca Indian Nation are at odds over the tribe's casino plans for a site near the Lake Erie waterfront.
Mayor Byron Brown this morning broke off talks with the nation over the sale and abandonment of a city street the Senecas wanted as part of their planned Buffalo Creek casino complex.
Brown says the city wanted assurances in return that half the casino's employees would be Buffalo residents, and a third would be minorities and women. The city also wanted the Senecas to promise not to acquire additional land in Buffalo.
The dispute doesn't derail casino plans but it's expected to alter what the final casino may look like.
Seneca President Barry Snyder says he'll respond to the mayor's comments later today. |
