Companies Announce Plans For Casino At Sparks Retail Complex
June 28, 2006
Two companies have announced plans for a hotel-casino at a major planned retail development in Sparks. Olympia Gaming and Red Development said the resort - not part of the original plan for the massive Legends at Sparks Marina complex - will feature a 50,000-square-foot casino and 1,000-room hotel.
Las Vegas-based Olympia, which owns the Casino Fandango in Carson City, said the resort will cater to tourists with many suites, five restaurants, a high-end spa, private beach and a convention center. Olympia officials said they plan to break ground on the $500 million project's first phase early next year with completion by early 2009.
Steve Graham, vice president of development for Red Development, said the casino will help boost the appeal for other tenants. Sparks Mayor Geno Martini said he thinks the casino will be a "great fit" for the project.
Olympia has confidence in northern Nevada's tourist market despite flat revenues due to competition from casinos in California.
Among future tenants at the complex will be Brooks Brothers clothing; Cantina Corona, the beer maker's second Mexican restaurant in the U.S.; and Pin-Up Bowl, an adult bowling alley with martini bar. Plans call for construction of the retail development to begin in September or October.
