Connectitcut tribes bring rivalry to Kansas

CONNECTICUT -- As reported by the Connecticut Day: "The Mohegan tribe is hoping to develop a casino and resort in northeast Kansas, not far from a south-central county where its rival, Foxwoods Resort Casino, is putting in a bid of its own.
"The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, which owns the Mohegan Sun casino in Uncasville and recently developed the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs near Wilkes-Barre, Pa., is joining forces with two other partners to develop a potentially massive 'Mohegan Sun-style' resort in Wyandotte County, Kan.
"Kansas recently passed a law legalizing commercial casinos and opening up a competitive bid process for it in four zones — Wyandotte County in the northeast, Sumner County in the south central section of the state (where Foxwoods hopes to be), Crawford and Cherokee counties in the southeast and Ford County in the southwest.
"The Mohegans' partners include the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs; Nevada-based Olympia Gaming-KC, LLC, and RED Leg Sun, LLC, based in Kansas City, Mo., and Scottsdale, Ariz.
"...The Mohegans have other projects in the works in Palmer, Mass.; New York; LaCenter, Wash.; and Kenosha, Wis., but competition will be as stiff in Wynandotte County as its citizens are eager for winning projects to emerge. Other competitors in Wyandotte County include Pinnacle Entertainment and the Sands Kansas, LLC.
"...The Mohegan's competitor in Connecticut, Foxwoods Development Co., an arm of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, which owns and operates Foxwoods, has joined Chisholm Creek Ventures, a limited liability company, and the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska with similar hopes of building a casino Sumner County at the state's southern border..."
