Russia’s largest casino company, Storm International have announced that we will be investing into the Costa Rican casino market this year after the company appears to have been forced out of their home country by the Russian government.
In 2006 Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, put gaming and gambling on a par with those who had alcohol and/or nicotine addictions. Later that year he outlawed gambling which had been increasing in leaps and bounds in the Russia economy, banning bookies and casino’s from the largest Russian cities including the capital, Moscow.
The owner of Storm International, a 60 year old British man, stated that in order to meet the company’s goals of sustaining 12% of the market by 2030, currently valued at $172 billion, then they would have to move and explore new markets unless these laws were revoked.
Storm’s plans for Costa Rica have been relatively kept under wraps, however it is known that are intending to open their own resort hotel as well as a separate casino which should be both set to open later this year.
Mean while back in Russia, the 5 major Casino locations Storm currently owns will be transformed into city offices, commercial outlets and higher-end hotels as the company also looks into diversifying from its gambling roots and venturing into charter jets and yachts for business men. |
