Watch out when you drive near Tunica! Crooks are targeting folks visiting the casinos.

People head to Tunica looking to hit the jackpot. Lately, it's crooks who have been striking it rich.

A woman was held up last Sunday, and the robber committed the crime in a way Mississippi law enforcement officers have never seen before.

The robber bumped his car into his victim's car. When she pulled over to exchange insurance information, he held her up.

It happens all the time in Memphis. Now it's happening in Mississippi too.

On September 4, a purse snatcher robbed two people in a parking lot near the Grand Casino. Deputies arrested and charged a man, but it still has some tourists worried.

Tunica tourist Wanda Sample said, "I've been scared the whole time I've been here."

Sample has heard about the crimes. Because of them, she takes her husband wherever she goes.

Sample said, "With everything that's happening in Memphis and here, I haven't walked into the hotel by myself, without him."

Sample says the crime won't keep her away from Tunica, but she hopes deputies catch the robber soon.

She says, "I like it here, but I just always stay close to my husband."

DeSoto County Sheriff's Deputies say the robber is still on the loose. If you know anything that could help catch him, call 662-429-TIPS.

If someone bumps the back of your car, the DeSoto County Sheriff says call his department immediately, pull over in a well populated area, and drive off if you think the other driver looks suspicious.

I don't think this is anything that has just begun to happen. When I lived in Memphis six years ago, people were getting robbed at Tunica. Memphis has a lot of unsavory characters and they seem to make their way down to Tunica.

It is shame and I wish they could put a stop to it, but without cleaning up the crime in Memphis, I don't see that happening.

Federal Appeals Court Upholds Conviction In Tunica Casino Robbery

A federal appeals court has upheld the conviction of Kevis Wilson for his role in a 2003 holdup of the Grand Casino Tunica in which the robbers claimed an empty honey bun box contained a bomb.

Wilson, of Tunica County, Mississippi, was convicted of planning the 2003, robbery. Wilson and five others were convicted in federal court in Oxford, Mississippi, in 2005.

Wilson was convicted of conspiracy to affect interstate commerce by robbery of the casino and aiding and abetting in the robbery. Wilson was also convicted of interstate transportation of stolen property and receipt and possession of stolen property which crossed a state line.

He was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
