A Southland Greyhound Park official says the deadline has come and gone for opponents to file an appeal in a lawsuit challenging a state law to allow more gambling at the dog track in West Memphis. A judge ruled in favor of the track.
The Family Action Council Committee filed two similar lawsuits to stop track operators at Southland and at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs from offering electronic games of skill. A judge also ruled for Oaklawn Park in that lawsuit.
Barry Baldwin, president of Southland Racing Corporation, says an appeal was filed in the Oaklawn case but not in the Southland case. Family Action Council has said it would file an appeal in only one of the cases because they are so similar.
Baldwin says the dog track is moving forward with plans to add the games.
