BUFFALO, N.Y. The deal to build a major casino in downtown Buffalo appears to have been derailed, but city officials and leaders of the Seneca Indian Nation say both sides could return to the bargaining table.
Talks between Mayor Bryon Brown's administration and the tribe's gaming officials broke down after the city refused to sell a road that runs between two properties where the Senecas want to build their third casino in western New York.
Mayor Brown is balking at the sale until he gets some concessions from the tribe on such issues as hiring for casino jobs and future land purchases in the city.
Senecas official say if they can't purchase the city-owned road, they'll build a much smaller version of their casino.
Brown says he's open to resuming talks with tribal officials, who also say they'd like to continue hashing out the issue. |
