EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Workers at Casino Aztar filed a petition Tuesday with the National Labor Relations Board seeking a union representation election, the United Auto Workers union announced.

About 180 dealers at the riverboat would be eligible to vote in the election, the union said.

Maureen Keenan, the casino's general manager, said company officials had been notified by the UAW of the move and was reviewing the information. "We have always wanted and will continue to want what is best for all of our crew members," she said in the statement.

Casino Aztar had about 1,200 workers last year, according to the Indiana Gaming Commission.

The Associated Press also left a phone messages seeking comment Tuesday with Casino Aztar's owner, Columbia Sussex Corp. of Fort Mitchell, Ky.

Columbia Sussex also owns the Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City, N.J., where workers will hold a similar election Saturday. The UAW currently represents about 6,000 casino employees in Detroit, Atlantic City, N.J., and Newport, R.I.
