Less than six months into operation the casino is undergoing a major expansion. It's a project that will fatten the wallets of everyone in the area. There's never a shortage of activity inside the Diamond Jo Casino, and these days there's just as much hustle and bustle outside the walls. Carrie Tedore, the public relations director for the casino says "Ever since we opened customers were making comments about when we were going to expand and we thought they were just joking." A steady flow of gamers has turned that joke into a reality with a 28-million dollar expansion project. The Casino is digging out room for a 190 seat buffet, poker room, 11 table games and 300 more slots. Patron Sherryl Loeffler says "It's going to be wonderful because I've heard a lot of people say they can't get on the machines." If a larger casino and increased gaming is enough to get you to throw your chips around until late into the night right now your options are pretty limited but that's also about to change with the addition of a 100 plus room hotel. Tedore says "When we add the hotel and all the amenities it will really help make this a knockout location." That should mean a jackpot for the community. "It will bring more visitors to the area which is great for local retail, it's great for the Northwood area." Casino officials say more space equals more jobs and more money. With 6 percent of profits going back into the community that means the Worth County Development Authority is getting paid as well. Tedore says "Initially we thought that nonprofit could get between 1.5 and 2.1 million dollars, now it's going to be well over three." The idea of what the expansion could bring has all involved anxious for the day bulldozers are replaced by blackjack. The hotel should be holding guests by November and the addition to the casino floor will be opening in April.
