Emeril Lagasse announces plans for his coming New Orleans Fish House on the Gulf Coast restaurant. The fine dining establishment will open at Island View Casino Resort in Gulfport in Spring or Summer 2007.
GULFPORT - Emeril Lagasse unveiled artist renderings Monday afternoon of what his signature New Orleans Fish House on the Gulf Coast will look like when it opens next summer at the Island View Casino in Gulfport.
"Last year, we had over 300 opportunities to open restaurants," the celebrity chef said. "For us, it's not about quantity. It's about quality."
He currently has nine restaurants in New Orleans, Las Vegas, Orlando and Miami. Gulfport was chosen for the 10th because Lagasse wants to take part in the rebuilding of the Coast and he was impressed with the Island View's development plans. As a gesture toward rebuilding efforts, the Emeril Lagasse Foundation awarded $25,000 to the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center, a children's museum that was heavily damaged by Hurricane Katrina but is back open.
Lagasse and his wife, Alden Lagasse, a Gulfport native, co-chaired the museum's fundraising efforts in 2003 and 2004. Alden Lagasse was a friend and tennis partner of the woman the museum is named after.
Leland Speed, director of the Mississippi Development Authority, and Gulfport Mayor Brent Warr were on hand for the announcement.
"We have just set a new bar when it comes to restaurants here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast," Speed said.
Lagasse is the third celebrity chef to announce the opening of a casino on the Coast. Luke Palladino opened Bragozzo at the Isle of Capri in October. Todd English will open Olives at Beau Rivage in December. |
