So it's over.

The lights are out, machines gone. Points forfieted.

A fortune in high-end servers and software powered down and dark.

How sad it all is.

This was a beautiful casino. 4 floors all remodeled and decorated - sparing no expense. The staff there was great and wanted the place to succeed. I should know - I actually "worked" there for a while (more on that some other time).

It a nutshell - this is a case of trying to do too much too quickly. And thereby having too much of a debt load to make it through the lean times - which are a fact of life in all the Colorado gaming towns.

RIP Scarlet's. It was fun while it lasted.

How sad! I usually think of casinos just always making money hand over foot. I have never heard of one going belly up due to debts. That is too bad - sounds like a beautiful place.

That sucks... any plans on new casinos opening in that building Steve?

Libby - the taxes on each slot machine are astronomical.... it actually takes a little while for a new casino to catch up on debt.... if they do, they have made it. But if they don't the get the crunch.

Yea, it takes a lot to over come at first but once they get rolling...thats another story.

Sounds like it was a great place. Sure there will be another coming soon.

Hi all -

Bernie asked about plans for another casino moving in the building...

Well, there's MUCH behind the scenes wheeling and dealing going on right now. The building and its prime location are too valuable to stand empty for long.

So - you heard it here first: Doc Holliday ownership will take over the facility, scale it down to one or two floors, and re-open (hopefully by the end of the year) under a new name.

We should have a "name the casino" contest, although they have already decided on it. I'll hold back the new name and see what folks come up with. This should be fun.

Interesting... I vote for: O.K. Corral Casino

Question, why just two floors? just to avoid the gaming taxes on the machines? waiting until they make the money back before they open them up?

Thanks for the info Steve!

If you like videogames, come see me at Gaming Evolved Forum (I'm Eyes Only over there too)

Well I'm glad it's not staying empty forever. Sounds like a beautiful casino, it would be a shame to never have it reopen.

As long as we're voting for names here, how about sticking with a Gone With The Wind theme? I'd suggest "Rhett's", or maybe "Tara".

Hope you'll post again about the reopening, and tell us the real name.

Gone With The Wind??? maybe I've been living under a rock, but I thought the theme was the shootout at the OK Coral with Doc Holliday ...
