Fair Grounds Named Southern Travel Treasure
NEW ORLEANS, LA. (November 7, 2006) --
Fair Grounds Race Course has been named a Southern Travel Treasure by the American Automobile Association’s magazine, “AAA Southern Traveler.”
Fair Grounds is featured in the latest issue of the magazine and was selected as a Southern Travel Treasure for its appeal to typical AAA members.
The Southern Travel Treasure series is part of each bi-monthly issue, which is sent to more than 175,000 homes in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
Fair Grounds Race Course, the nation’s third-oldest Thoroughbred racing facility, has been in operation since 1872. Located in New Orleans, Fair Grounds is owned by Churchill Downs Incorporated (NASDAQ Global Select Market: CHDN) and also operates off-track betting parlors throughout southeast Louisiana. Fair Grounds’ 135th season, the first live racing in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina, begins Nov. 23, 2006, and is headlined by the 94th running of the $600,000 Grade II Louisiana Derby on March 10, 2007.
