Lawyers for a spurned casino developer will ask a federal judge today to halt an upcoming vote on a West Warwick casino.

Ajax Gaming Ventures and Johnston town officials filed the lawsuit last month. They want a U.S. District Court judge to block a vote on a constitutional amendment allowing the Narragansett Indian Tribe and Harrah's Entertainment to operate a casino in West Warwick.

Ajax had previously partnered with a Donald Trump subsidiary to build a casino in Johnston. That partnership has since lapsed. Trump's company isn't involved in the lawsuit.

Lawyers for Ajax and Johnston say the proposed amendment unfairly gives gaming rights to one group and excludes all others. But the Narragansetts and Harrah's say federal courts shouldn't interfere in a state matter.
