DAYTON | — Federal prosecutors filed a formal criminal charge Wednesday against a Sugarcreek Twp. man charging him with conspiracy to conduct illegal gambling that, along with others, brought in proceeds of more than $28 million.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Mona Guerrier said a plea agreement with Robert Roth is also part of the case that will lead to a plea before Judge Thomas M. Rose at a date yet to be determined.
Roth's attorney, David C. Greer, could not be reached for comment.
The case against Roth stems from raids by federal agents in February 2003 when they moved in a civil lawsuit to seize homes, cash and other property. The investigation involved the Greene County Agencies for Combined Enforcement Task Force, the FBI and the Internal Revenue Service.
Roth operated a gambling business at 3973 Rockfield Drive, Beavercreek, until 2003, the bill of information states. He also generated revenues from gambling machines operating at private social clubs since 1973, the document said.
