The Tsuu T'ina First Nation is celebrating the start of construction on a major casino project on the former Harvey Barracks site.
The soggy weather Thursday turned the sod turning ceremony into a muddy affair.

But that didn't stop Tsuu T'ina leaders from celebrating the long-awaited launch of the Eaglestone Casino project.

The $70-million project will get underway immediately on Tsuu T'ina land just off Glenmore Trail and 37th Street southwest.

Chief Sanford Big Plume says it'll be Alberta's premier gaming facility that will provide the nation and surrounding area with hundreds of jobs.

Big Plume says the 84,000-square foot casino is the smallest of four economic development projects the Tsuu T'ina are working on. It's scheduled to open next summer.
