Casino news from http://www.mmegi.bw/

The new casino, which opened its doors last week, is the first independent, citizen-owned casino operation in Gaborone and brings the number of casinos in the capital to three. The Gaming Manager, Ian Saunders, told Mmegi yesterday that the casino, which comprises 50 slot machines, is all-electronic, meaning that there is no cash involved.

"Everything will be paid from the card," he said, explaining that patrons would pay at the reception where they would receive a card for the machines. And when they win they would also be paid from the card.

Saunders said they opted for a soft opening in order to avoid getting overwhelmed and being enmeshed in teething problems.

"Now we are ready to rock and roll," he said, adding that already the level of patronage for the casino was pleasing.

The new casino is worth over P2 million of investments, but is only Phase 1 of the entire project.

Phase Two is a proposed P6 million investment planned to commerce mid 2007 and would comprise an additional 50 slot machines, eight Roulette, Black Jack and Porker tables divided into smoking and none smoking areas.

Phase Two would also include a major revamping of the hotel, one of the oldest landmarks in the city. The refurbishment would also include a substantial facelift, a second storey office complex above the casino, a new bar, games room, disco, reception area and hotel Porte Cochere. Both phases of the project are expected to create over 56 permanent jobs.
