Five Keeneland Races Upgraded by American Graded Stakes Committee; Maker’s Mark Mile, First Lady Elevated to Grade 1

The American Graded Stakes Committee of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association presented its listing of U.S. Graded Stakes for 2008, the results of its annual grading session conducted November 27 in Lexington.
Five Keeneland stakes races were upgraded, including the Maker’s Mark Mile and First Lady Stakes, which were elevated to grade 1 status. In addition, the Fifth Third Elkhorn Stakes was moved up to grade 2, while the Woodford Reserve Bourbon, Bryan Station and Appalachian Stakes all were elevated to grade 3.
“We are thrilled,” said Keeneland’s Director of Racing Rogers Beasley, who is a member on the committee along ten other with racing officials and TOBA members. “It is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of the entire Keeneland team and their ability to assemble some of the best racing in the country. We would also like thank the owners and trainers for their support of our racing program.”
