Gov. Ed Rendell has signed into law a bill that will allow Pennsylvania casinos to serve free liquor to their slots customers.

The law will also eliminate some restrictions on Philadelphia restaurants' sale of liquor and beer.

Another change provided for by House Bill 446 would be the transfer of restaurant liquor licenses from Philadelphia to suburban counties. Such a move would "facilitate development of mixed-use town centers" in areas where liquor licenses are scarce.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is expected to decide next month on the winner of licenses for two stand-alone slots facilities in Philadelphia.

Slots licenses have already been awarded for five racetracks, including Chester Downs in Chester and Philadelphia Park in Bensalem. In all, 11 sites are expected to get slots licenses.
