LINCOLN, NEB. (AP) Secretary of State John Gale says he will announce Wednesday whether petition initiatives to allow casino gambling and video keno should be allowed on the November ballot.
Earlier today, Attorney General Jon Bruning issued an opinion that said the casino measure violates the state constitution's limit on submitting similar ballot proposals more than once in three years.
Nebraskans voted down two casino plans in November 2004 -- one touted by Las Vegas casino interests and the other by the
Legislature.
Even though the details of proposals differ from past ones, opponents consider it more of the same.
As for the keno measure, Bruning said it would allow a form of gambling that is not authorized in the state constitution. |
