Gambling news from http://www.harness.org.au/ Canberra's annual presentation night was held last Saturday night. A crowd of around 180 people attended. Awards presented included: City Group Horse of the Year- ‘Gambling Greek’ owned by T E Elliott trained by Michael Day. Canberra Veterinary Hospital Juvenile Horse of the Year- ‘Easysaidthandone’ Owned and Trained by Lindsay Woodward. National Trotguide Trainer of the Year- Neil Day Ocean Point Resort Local Trainer of the Year - Michael Hawke Hylands Sportswear Driver of the year – Neil Day Ocean Point Resort Local Driver of the Year - Scott Osmond. GLEN MIA ACT Encouragement Award - Dennis Picker John Platts Award - John O’Sullivan Both the Driver of the year and Local trainer of the year resulted in very tight finishes with neither title decided until the final meeting of the season. Going into the last racing date there was only one point separating Neil Day and Scott Osmond in the Driver of the Year and one point between Wayne Driscoll and Michael Hawke in the Local Trainer of the year Competition. Neil Day drove 2 winners on the program to clinch his title while Michael Hawke trained a winner to snatch victory from Wayne Driscoll. It was very pleasing to have NSW Harness Racing Club President John Baker and his wife Marilyn as guests in order for John to present the National Trotguide Trainer of the Year trophy. President Ray Redman addressed the gathering and outlined the Clubs new plan to race mainly Monday night Sky Channel meetings. He said that an official announcement to that effect is expected to be made shortly. The first meeting of the 2006/2007 season is expected to be Monday night 25th September 2006.
