Gaming Board Preps to Auction Casino Gaming License
The Illinois Gaming Board says it’s close to auctioning the state’s long-dormant 10th casino license. An appellate court recently upheld a decision to revoke the gaming license of Emerald Casino.
Board chairman Aaron Jaffe says he’s relieved by that decision.
JAFFE: Gaming brings approximately $800 million per year into the state coffers. And at the present time most of that money goes to education.
Jaffe says Emerald’s license has been out of operation for so long that it’s cost the state nearly one-billion dollars. Emerald attorney Robert Clifford says the casino will file an appeal. But the board doesn’t think Emerald has a case. Chairman Jaffe says an auction could happen before the end of the year.
