A man who allegedly helped his loan borrower to use three counterfeit credit cards in a local high-end shop in order to settle his gaming debt, was caught by the Judiciary Police on Monday.
Police officers on duty in a casino hotel in the peninsula's Central district received reports from one of the high-end shops there in the afternoon that a customer was suspected of making purchases using a fake credit card.
The 51-year-old man from Hong Kong, surnamed Fung, was intercepted inside the hotel and three suspected fake credit cards that appeared to be issued from a North American bank were recovered after a body search, police spokesperson Chan Kin Hong said.
In addition, Mr Chan said a suspected counterfeit Hong Kong identity card was found in which the name shown was the same as that appearing on the credit cards.
The suspect admitted to police the alleged crime which he did for repaying his HK$30,000 gaming debt.
Every purchase the suspect made by using the fake credit cards could deduct 10 percent off the amount he owed to the borrower, Mr Chan said.
The Hong Kong resident came to Macau on the same day and he first went to the shop and purchased two bags at about HK$10,000 in which he had not been detected for using suspicious credit cards.
About an hour later, Mr Chan said the suspect returned to the same shop and tried to make more purchases. It was at that time the salesperson suspected the authenticity of the credit cards and thus reported him to the in-house police.
The suspect was sent to the Public Prosecutions Office and will be charged with counterfeiting documents and transferring fake currencies to third party. |
