DETROIT (AP) — It's time to redeem Greektown Casino slot machine tokens or keep them as souvenirs, casino officials said.
Gamblers have until 11:59 p.m. Thursday to redeem their tokens at the downtown casino, which converted to coinless machines about a year ago.
"It's just more convenient to our customers than anything else," Greektown Casino's director of marketing and advertising Scott Rutledge told The Detroit News, of the paper-in, paper-out machines.
"We've eliminated our customers carrying tokens around the casino in buckets. And the players no longer will have dirty hands from handling the tokens," he said.
Since the switch, Greektown has collected 42,000 bags of tokens, weighing more than 1 million pounds and worth $3 million.
In three weeks, a metal shredder will be brought in to grind the tokens into metal waste. |
