Greg Hopkins Wins Event No. 37 at the WSOP
Hopkins Takes Home the $2,000 Pot-Limit Hold'em Gold

Greg Hopkins came into today’s $2,000 pot-limit hold’em final table second in chips, but once heads-up play began, there was no question he would settle for anything less than first and the bracelet. Hopkins, whose previous largest cash was $62,450 for a second-place finish at the L.A. Poker Classic, battled through a long final table that saw some questionable play and sick beats to win $269,274, and his first World Series Of Poker bracelet.

Hopkins took on Jason Newburger, who was making his third final table appearance at the WSOP. Newburger walked away with $165,707 for his second-place finish. The final hand came down when Newburger raised on the button with K Q. Hopkins reraised with pocket jacks, and Newburger pushed his remaining chips into the pot. Hopkins made the call and the board came 10 9 2 10 4, giving him the victory.

Most of the final table participants came in with very little experience, with the exception of Pete Lawson, Greg Hopkins, and Gioi Luong. Luong took the toughest beat of the tournament to finish in seventh place. Luong raised with A K and Yuval Bronshtein defended his blind with K 8. The flop came A K 8, and Luong bet. Bronshtein reraised and Luong went all in with his top two pair. Bronshtein made the call, and he was drawing dead to an 8. One of the players at the table claimed he folded an 8, but the turn was the case 8, and Luong was eliminated when a brick hit the river.

Here are the final table results and payouts:

Greg Hopkins - $269,274
Jason Newburger - $165,707
Yuval Bronshtein - $109,018
Pete Lawson - $72,497
David Zarrin - $52,874
Robert Collison - $41,427
Gioi Luong - $31,070
Raymond Coburn - $22,894
Brian O’Connell - $16,353
